22 Oct 08--The Columbia Corridor Association held a Breakfast Forum today on the financial crisis and how it is affecting Portland businesses. If you missed the forum, you might want to take a look at a few fresh numbers--straight out of the oven. Bottom line is that Portland is going to be hit hard for a couple of years, but probably not as hard as other parts of the country, world, solar system.

ITT Technical Institute Opens New Campus at Cascade Station

15 Oct 08--ITT Tech is moving from their Columbia Blvd location to a new building in Cascade Station, near MAX light rail. The new facilities will be a significant improvement for classrooms and labs. The location on the MAX red line will ease transportation concerns for students. Given the downturn in the economy, more students are likely to sign up for training.

A Grand Opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 29th, 2:30 - 4:30 pm at 9500 NE Cascades Parkway, 97220. All are welcome to attend; RSVP's are appreciated. For more information, contact Emily Pierce at 503.255.6500.


New Business Recycling Regulations

1 Oct 08--The Portland Office of Sustainable Development (OSD) has been developing new recycling regulations to improve business recycling rates to 75% of total waste by 2015. A Technical Advisory Committee met this past summer to provide recommendations for a phased-in approach. A hearing on the proposal is scheduled for 4-6 pm, October 30 at the OSD office, 721 NW 9th Ave, Suite 350.

I-5/Marine Drive Interchange Stakeholder Committee at Work

26 Sept 08--As the Columbia River Crossing moves forward, one of the most contentious issues has been growing around the Marine Dr. interchange. A new stakeholder committee has been formed to blend the needs of freight transportation, neighborhood connections, private property owners and development around the Expo's MAX station. The initial meeting occurred September 24th. A decision should come in November.

The Future of West Hayden Island

25-Sep-2008--The future zoning of West Hayden Island will be decided through a collaborative public process led by the City of Portland, beginning this fall. The 800 acre site, owned by the Port of Portland, is adjacent to the Columbia River ship channel and close to two intercontinental railroads and I-5. It also hosts important wildlife habitat and has potential as a recreation area.
