Legislative Update on Mixing Zones

Senate Bill 555, the bill to eliminate mixing zones in bodies of water, appears to be dead in this session of the legislature, although the concerned environmental organizations who promoted it are still very actively pursuing the idea.  A mixing zone is an area in a river where a DEQ permitted wastewater outfall is used to discharge treated wastewater into the receiving stream.  Implementation of this bill would have removed some of DEQ's most important tools to manage river water quality, created significant cost issues for city wastewater treatment plants, and potentially increased Corridor's water users rates substantially.

 

 

Portland Freight Committee to Release Freight Master Plan

After two years of fast-paced work, the Portland Freight Committee is about to release its plan for future freight policies and strategies.  The plan will be a road map for managing freight traffic in the future.  The Columbia Corridor is a critical element in the plan and will continue to be a focal point.  To review the plan or find out more about the Portland Freight Committee, visit the committee's web page.

 


Portland Well Field Protection Workshop
The Portland Well Field is the area directly above Portland's back-up drinking water.  To protect the wells from accidental contamination, the Well Field Protection Program requires certain procedures of the businesses that handle hazardous chemicals in the area.  A workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, August 23rd.  Call Corky at 503.287.8686 for details.  For more information, visit our website.

MidAmerican, a privately owned global provider of energy services, agreed to purchase all of the outstanding shares of PacifiCorp common stock for approximately $5.1 billion in cash…

Manufacturing 21 Survey

The Manufacturing 21 Coalition is an industry-led organization with members from across the region. They are working to improve the quality of Oregon and Southwest Washington’s workforce and to increase our capacity for research and development through the creation of a center for manufacturing and infrastructure engineering.
